Canberra has a temperate climate. Due to its slightly higher elevation Canberra has larger temperature differences than the coast of Australia. It is one of the few cities in this country where it could freeze in winter. Sometimes the thermometer plunges even a few degrees below zero. The summers in Canberra are pleasant with averages of around 28°C.
