Nicosia Climate by Month
Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and is located quite centrally on the island, along the Pedieos River. The city has a warm Mediterranean climate with many hot, sometimes scorching, days during the summer. On average, July is the hottest month, with temperatures reaching 37°C, while January, the coolest month, averages 16°C. In the summer months, Nicosia is hot and dry, with July being the driest month, receiving only about 2 mm of precipitation. Winters are cooler and wetter than the coastal towns, with January being the wettest month, seeing around 57 mm of rain. The average annual precipitation is 344 mm.
Temperatures above 35°C are more the rule than the exception in July and August. On the hottest days of the year, it can be too hot to visit Nicosia. While there is some shade in the narrow streets, there is little to no breeze, making the perceived temperature even higher. July is also the sunniest month, with 397 hours of sunshine, while January sees the least amount of sunshine, averaging 171 hours. The chance of prolonged rainfall in the summer is virtually non-existent, but in the winter months, there is a greater chance of longer-lasting rain.
