San Antonio has a combination of a humid subtropical climate and a semi-arid climate. The weather is heavily influenced by the Gulf of Mexico. Because of this influence, the average temperature during the winter months is just slightly higher than in more northern Texas towns. In general San Antonio has very hot, long, and humid summers and mild to cool winters.

Average precipitation is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year. During the warmest days, the mercury can rise considerably, and temperatures above 40°C is no exception. The city is subject to cold fronts during winter with cool to cold nights, typically seeing minimum temperatures at or near freezing.
