Bhutan is without doubt one of the most special bucket list destinations in the world. The former Buddhist kingdom makes a fairy tale burst into reality. Bhutan is filled with culture and traditions. A country where everything is dominated by Tibetan Buddhism, and above all a country with a super friendly and hospitable population. Traveling to Bhutan was made impossible for a long time by the government and still everything is being done to ensure that the country does not get flooded by tourism. The government hopes to keep the country as pure as possible and thereby improve the happiness of its own residents. It is therefore one of the least developed countries in the world.
Bhutan is a kingdom in the Himalayas that is between India and China. Bhutan is the country where the “Gross National Happiness” was invented. This means the prosperity of the country is not measured on the base of income, but on the base of how happy the inhabitants are. We love it!
Your trip will already start at Bhutan airport in the capital Thimphu. Thimphu, a city without a single traffic light, is more like a peaceful village than a metropolis. In Bhutan you can discover the mystical monasteries and wander through the imposing and ancient Dzongs, including the Dzong of Punakha. You walk through the most beautiful valleys and untouched forests and the mighty Bhutanese Himalayas. You will marvel at the most beautiful panoramas.
Traveling with a guide
The only disadvantage of traveling in Bhutan is that you cannot travel freely and independently. You will only receive a visa if you have booked a trip with an authorized agent in the country. Once in the country you can only travel with a guide. A special feature of Bhutan is that travelers are expected to spend around US $ 250 a day.
