Average temperatures, rainfall, sunshine and the best time to visit Bishkek.

Climate overview of Bishkek

Bishkek is the capital of Kyrgyzstan, a relatively unknown country in Central Asia. It is situated in the central part of the Chuy Valley, at a relatively low altitude of 700 to 850 meters (2,300 to 2,790 feet) above sea level for Kyrgyzstan.

Bishkek has a warm continental climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and cooler, slightly wetter winters, with average night temperatures around -7°C (19°F). However, sharp cold spells are common, and extremely cold nights can occur. Due to the lack of warm sea influence and its sheltered position north of the Tien Shan Mountains, winter weather can be highly erratic. From November to February, temperatures frequently drop to -20°C (-4°F) or lower.

Annually, Bishkek enjoys over 2500 hours of sunshine and receives 449 mm (18 in) of precipitation.
