The degree of human influence at the Parc National du Banc d'Arguin is extremely low and makes it heaven for birds and a bucket list destination for bird lovers. The inhabitants of the Banc d'Arguin, the Imraguen, live mainly from fishing. They happily earn some extra income from tourism. The Imraguen catch fish with wooden open sailboats.
Best time to visit
The Banc d'Arguin is on the border of the Sahara and Atlantic and it prevails a dry climate. For bird watchers we recommend visiting in the middle of winter (December- March), because during that time you will see the highest concentration of birds.
The ideal way to approach the birds is by traditional fishing boat, best organized from the fishing village of Iwik.
