We came across this amazing private island resort just minutes from the colonial town of Granada on lake Nicaragua. With spectacular views of the Mombacho Volcano across the lake and nine luxury bungalows, it really took our breath away. In this magical island resort you will experience peace and tranquility.
Jicaro is also seen as a honeymoon destination and that's not surprising. Jicaro Island Ecolodge has been named one of the most unique lodges worldwide by National Geographic Magazine. The pool has a super sweet location, the food is delicious and the lodges are breathtakingly beautiful. For example, you have two floors to yourself and you can use eco-friendly products, such as a scrub for your skin or soap made from local products.
A tour, snacks, kayaking and paddle boarding are included in the price, as well as boat transportation from Puerto Marina. You can choose the sustainable tour to learn about the lake or other trips can be arranged to neighboring islands where the property follows in various social and environmental projects. We love it that they support local community projects and that it is environmentally conscious. They even have a bird watching tower and the birds are spectacular. After a day of exploring you might enjoy resting at the pool.
Best time to visit
In Nicaragua there are two seasons: the dry and the rainy season. During the dry season (January - June) there is virtually no rain and trees and plants start to dry out. Once the rains come around June, July, everything starts to grow and the yellow plants and leafless trees turn green and start blossoming. In August and September it often rains once a day. Fortunately, it just rains for a short period of time and these are often spectacular, tropical downpours.
The high season, from December to April, is for many the best time to travel to Nicaragua. In the months of April and May it can be extremely hot and uncomfortably dry but it is usually considered the best time to travel since it is not so busy.
