Climate and Average Weather in Zambia

Zambia has a humid subtropical or tropical wet and dry climate. From mid-April to August it is dry in Zambia. During this period the nights are cool and the days are often much more pleasant than in the rest of the year. You can expect days with an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit).

From September to mid-November the weather in Zambia suddenly becomes a lot warmer. The temperature easily exceeds 30 degrees Celsius (86°F). During this period the sun is shining bright most of the time. Almost all precipitation falls in summer (December - March) and the wettest month is at least ten times as wet as the driest month in winter. In the north of Zambia there is a different climate due to the higher elevation and slightly lower temperatures. The western part of Zambia that borders Angola is significantly warmer.

The best time to visit Zambia is from May to August. The average maximum temperatures during that period is between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius (75.2 and 82.4°F) and it is very dry. At higher altitudes it can get a bit cooler.
