Vietnam in February: North, Central or South?

South Vietnam has the driest and hottest February weather
Ho Chi Minh City is the hottest destination in this comparison, averaging 34°C (93°F) during the day and 24°C (75°F) at night. February is also exceptionally dry, with only 12 mm (0.5 in) of rain over roughly four days. Sunshine reaches around 248 hours.
Those figures make the south a strong choice for travelers who want dependable heat and relatively little rain. The trade-off is comfort. 34°C (93°F) is considerably hotter than Hanoi, Da Nang or Nha Trang, so long sightseeing days can feel demanding. If you want tropical warmth without the same urban heat, Phu Quoc is easier.
Phu Quoc is one of the strongest beach options

The island is comparatively dry in February: rainfall ranges from 29 mm (1.1 in) in An Thoi to 36 mm (1.4 in) in Cua Can, while Duong Dong receives around 251 hours of sunshine.
That makes Phu Quoc especially convincing if the goal is a warm island holiday. It is not as hot as Ho Chi Minh City, but sunshine is almost identical and rainfall remains low across the island. Compared with central Da Nang, the difference in precipitation is substantial.
Nha Trang has the best central-coast beach weather
Nha Trang averages 28°C (82°F) during the day, 22°C (72°F) at night and only 49 mm (1.9 in) of rain over about five days. Sunshine reaches 209 hours, and the sea averages 26°C (79°F). Weather & Climate identifies February as Nha Trang's driest month.
This gives Nha Trang one of the most balanced climates in Vietnam in February. It is warmer and sunnier than Da Nang, but less intensely hot than Ho Chi Minh City. The 26°C (79°F) sea also supports a genuine beach-focused trip rather than a city break where swimming is secondary.
Da Nang is warm, but wetter than Nha Trang
Da Nang averages 26°C (79°F) in the daytime and 21°C (70°F) at night. Rainfall reaches 110 mm (4.3 in), although it is concentrated into only about four rainy days. Sunshine totals around 144 hours.
The comparison with Nha Trang is useful. Nha Trang is about 2°C (36°F) warmer during the day, receives less than half the rainfall and has roughly 65 more hours of sunshine during the month. If you are choosing purely for beach conditions, Nha Trang has the stronger February data.
Da Nang still works well for a mixed cultural and coastal itinerary. Vietnam's official tourism site lists Da Nang among the country's main central destinations and places it within easy reach of other central Vietnam highlights. The weather just requires more flexibility than farther south.
Hanoi is mild, dry in total rainfall, but not very sunny
Hanoi has a completely different February climate. Days average 23°C (73°F) and nights 16°C (61°F). Monthly rainfall is only 38 mm (1.5 in), but rain is recorded on around 12 days and sunshine totals just 45 hours.
This is an important distinction between rainfall and blue-sky weather. Hanoi receives less rain than Nha Trang, yet Nha Trang has more than four times the sunshine. Light rain, cloud and damp winter conditions can make northern Vietnam feel much cooler than the precipitation total suggests.
North, central or south: which is driest?
By total rainfall, Ho Chi Minh City is the driest major destination here at 12 mm (0.5 in). Phu Quoc is also very dry, with the island ranging from 29 mm (1.1 in) to 36 mm (1.4 in) in the locations verified by Weather & Climate. Hanoi averages 38 mm (1.5 in) and Nha Trang 49 mm (1.9 in). Da Nang is the outlier at 110 mm (4.3 in).
But dryness does not always equal sunshine. Hanoi has only 45 sunshine hours, compared with 248 in Ho Chi Minh City and 251 in Duong Dong. If your definition of good weather includes clear skies, the south has the strongest advantage.
Can you swim in Vietnam in February?
Yes, particularly in the south and around Nha Trang. Nha Trang has an average sea temperature of 26°C (79°F). Weather & Climate also records 26°C (79°F) water around Ho Chi Minh City. Phu Quoc's tropical temperatures and low February rainfall make it one of the most practical beach choices even where a verified sea-temperature figure is not shown in the regional summary.
Hanoi is not a swimming-weather destination in February, and Da Nang's combination of 26°C (79°F) days and higher rainfall makes it less reliable for a beach-first trip than Nha Trang.

If weather is the main deciding factor, southern Vietnam has the strongest February combination. Ho Chi Minh City is hot and exceptionally dry, while Phu Quoc offers warm island weather with abundant sunshine. Nha Trang is the strongest alternative if you want a central-coast beach destination.
Choose Hanoi because you want the north's cities and landscapes, not because you expect tropical sunshine. Choose Da Nang for a broader central-Vietnam itinerary and accept a higher rainfall total. For travelers building the trip primarily around climate, the south and Nha Trang are the places to prioritize.
