When staying in Mazunte for a few months I went a couple of times to the Cascades Magicas De Copalitilla in Oaxaca, Mexico. It was my favourite spot to escape the Mexican heat and sit in a natural pool surrounded by cinnamon, papaya and banana trees. The Cascades Magicas which means magical waterfalls are located on the edge of coffee and cocoa plantations in the middle of the Jungle. The imagination of the tropical creator aced this place. Beauty unfolding into cascading beauty.

I have visited many many waterfalls in my life however none of them stole my heart as much as these ones did. The blue water is an amazing sight in the lush jungle and the amount of butterflies is amazing. Lying down and listening to the river is a fantastic experience. If you die and go to heaven it probably looks a bit like this (and my pictures are pretty old and don't do it justice).

Where to stay

I stayed in Mazunte and did an amazing yoga course there, but you can also stay very close to the waterfalls at La Palapa Cascadas Mágicas Copalitilla.

If you like adventure, it is an excellent option. The hotel is in the middle of the tropical forest near the waterfalls. There’s a beautiful waterfall where you can swim about 500 meters from the cabins. The cabins blend with the landscape.

It really is a paradise to disconnect from the everyday world and connect with nature.

Best time to visit

It is pretty warm year round near the Cascadas Magicas. The best time would be from October until March which is the dry season. I really love to be in the area around October because it is still very quiet. Also the rainy season has just ended so the waterfalls are at their best. From April til October you will experience some rain, especial from June til September. Click here for the average weather in Oaxaca.

How get there

La Palapa Cascadas Magicas is 22 mi (35 KM) from Bahías de Huatulco, 22 mi (35 KM) from Huatulco International Airport, 2 hours away from from Mazunte.
