Climate and Weather of Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is one of the hottest and driest places in the world during summer. However the predominantly desert-like areas experience significant temperature fluctuations. Particularly in spring, when daytime temperatures can exceed 30°C, the ground may still freeze in some places. There are also substantial differences between the highest and lowest temperatures recorded in the same year. For example, in summer, temperatures can reach 50°C inland, while the same location can experience bitter cold days during winter. In the eastern half, where seawater has no influence, there can be large temperature swings between day and night within a single 24-hour period.

Snowfall can occur in winter, especially in the Kopet-Dag mountain range in southern Turkmenistan. A consistent snow cover usually requires elevations above 1,500 meters (4921 ft), as snow is less likely to persist at lower altitudes. In Turkmenistan's capital, Ashgabat, located at the foot of the Kopet-Dag Mountains, snow can fall in December, January, and February, but it's equally possible to have several consecutive years without a single snowflake.

In general, the best time to visit is Turkmenistan is from April till June or from September till October. In these periods the average daytime temperatures range from 23°C till 35°C and nights from 10°C till 23°C. Best is to Avoid Turkmenistan all through the summer. At that time, temperatures can reach from 40°C till 45°C. There is no rain at all in summer.
