Climate and Weather of Botswana

Botswana's climate is predominantly semi-arid. In the summer months, from December to April, the probability of precipitation rises. Temperatures in many areas can reach tropical values, exceeding 30°C. This period may not be the most optimal for visitors, especially as prolonged rains can make sandy roads impassable. Moreover, the abundance of water causes animals to wander, making them harder to spot.

Throughout the summer, Botswana experiences high temperatures across the country and an increase in relative humidity. Yet, this season offers the spectacle of breathtaking sunrises. The sky paints itself in magnificent shades of red and purple, displaying a stunning backdrop over the landscape.

For those considering a visit, the best time to go is during the dry winter months, spanning from April to September. During this time, the days are generally pleasant, and wildlife tends to stay close to their water sources.

July and August, in particular, present optimal conditions with minimal cloud cover and precipitation. However, visitors should note the considerable temperature difference between day and night. Dressing in layers is advisable, especially if planning early morning safaris to observe wildlife. Mornings can be chilly, but temperatures can climb to over 20°C within a few hours.
