Covid update for the United Kingdom

United Kingdom More parts of United Kingdom in full lockdown

More parts of the UK will take the strictest measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus starting from Boxing Day. Health Minister Matt Hancock says that tightening regional lockdowns is needed quickly because the new strain of the virus detected in the country is more contagious than the normal virus. Until recently, the mutant was mainly found in the capital London and neighboring regions.

Essex, Norfolk, Sussex, Surrey, Oxfordshire and Hampshire will also go into severe lockdown on 26 December. Non-essential shops must close and home visits are restricted.
