If you like Wind Surfing than you must add the surf paradise Cabarete on your bucket list. At Cabarete you will always find wind! Connoisseurs even consider it one of the best windsurfing spots in the world.

Cabarete is located in the north of the Dominican Republic at about 19 km from the airport of Puerto Plata. Cabarete lies along the coastline, directly at the beach. It is the place to be for the surfer. Part of the coastline has even been labeled as 'kitebeach' and every year there are international wind and kite surfing competitions. Especially after noon, you will see the experts at work.

This place is known for its strong wind and high waves but also for its versatility. Until 11 am it is perfect to go to the sea with a (semi) beginners board, since there is little wind and there are almost no waves. From  1 pm the wind begins to become stronger and the waves also get higher and the surf becomes more challenging. Whether you are a beginner or more advanced, everyone actually surfs in the bay around 30 - 40 meters from the reef.

Thanks to the many sports enthusiasts who come to Cabarete every year, the place has become very lively. At the same time there is also a super relaxed atmosphere. The second reason that it is known in the area is because of its exuberant nightlife. On the beaches there are plenty of beach bars going on with rum till late in the evening.

We loved the location right at the beach. And the beds are comfortable and we must say the breakfast is EXCELLENT. Highly recommended.
