Tasmania is known for its wild and unspoiled nature, which makes it one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Fascinating colonial villages, beautiful rain forests, unique flora and fauna and clean beaches characterize Tasmania. One of the highlights of Tasmania is the world famous Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. It is s part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and lies in the north of Tasmania, just over an hour's drive from the port in Devonport.
The Cradle Mountain - Lake St. Clair National Park is a national park with lots of opportunities for hiking and multi-day trekking. You walk through rough mountains surrounded by beautiful, peaceful lakes. Forests with swirling rivers and you will encounter many waterfalls. The famous Overland Track also starts here, a six-day trip through mountains, lakes, huts and nothing but nature. A wonderful experience if you are an experienced hiker, but there are also countless options for walks from fifteen minutes to a few hours. In addition, you can decide for yourself whether to stay on flat, landscaped trails, with views of the Cradle Mountain peaks from the ground, or decide to view it all from slightly higher and climb to the summit. The raw peaks of Cradle Mountain form one of the highest mountains on the island.

Best time to visit

With more bad weather than good weather on average per year, it can be quite a challenge to see Cradle Mountain in its full glory. Not to mention the fact that the weather can change every hour. Because of the bizarre, mountainous landscape you have several micro climates .The best time to visit is not that simple, but we recommend the summer period from November to February. The average temperature pleasant with around 21 ° Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit) . Autumn weather can go in all directions, but is generally still good. Winter from June to August brings snow, cold temperatures, but also sunshine. Click here for the average weather in the capital Hobart.

If you are looking for a special place to stay and you are not on a budget we recommend the Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge. It is situated just north of the National Park and it is an ideal location for exploring the nearby nature reserve. This is a real must add to your bucket list hotel. The fantastic location, the food, all the possibilities for beautiful walks and spa is impressive.
