Micronesia is a group of more than 600 beautiful, tropical, volcanic and forested islands. They lie five thousand kilometers southwest of Hawaii, between the United States and Australia in the Pacific Ocean. Here you can go island hopping, with boats or planes and snorkel or dive into the azure blue water along coral reefs and tropical fish. On the islands you will find a lot of untouched nature with waterfalls and mountains. Make a survival trip in the dense jungle or stay on one of the innumerable deserted sandy beaches under a palm tree. Something you would like to add to your bucket list right?
The Federated States of Micronesia consist of four archipelagos: Kosrae, Phonei, Chuuk and Yap. The country covers approximately 607 small islands in the Pacific Ocean. Only 65 islands are inhabited. The capital of the Federated States of Micronesia is Palikir with 5,771 inhabitants, the largest city is Kolonia with 6,000 inhabitants, and these cities are both located on Pohnpei. The country covers some 702 km² and has a total around 108,000 inhabitants.

Micronesia is known as a tropical destination. Almost all beaches consist of white sand and clear blue water. The population usually lives in clans that are led by a clan head. The production of bananas, cassava, coconuts, pepper and tuna largely determines the economy.

Many people visit Micronesia to dive. It is known for its wrecks, jellyfish, sharks and manta rays. The best months to dive with Manta's are December, January and February. The months of February, March April, May, August and September are good months for sharks. Swimming with jellyfish is a very special event in Micronesia. These jellyfish live in a closed lake and do not have tentacles. These jellyfish do not bite or sting. With a snorkel set you can swim through hundreds of jellyfish. Something that is unique in the world.

Best time to visit

All islands of Micronesia can be visited throughout the year. The temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) year round. When you look at the precipitation you can conclude that the months November, December, January, February, March and the beginning of April are the best time to travel, In the other months the chance of a storm is a lot bigger. These rain showers can be very strong, but are usually short-lived. From January to March, a warning for tropical storms (cyclones) applies to a large part of Oceania.
