Climate and Weather of Hungary

Hungary's climate varies across its regions: it has a continental climate in the east, a maritime climate in the west, and a Mediterranean maritime climate in the south. On average, considering the temperatures and precipitation, the country predominantly experiences a continental climate. This type is characterized by warm summers and cold winters.

The country receives approximately 2,000 to 2,200 hours of sunshine annually, which is relatively high. During the summer months (June - September), daytime temperatures hover between 25°C and 30°C. This season also sees the most rainfall, averaging between 50 mm to 90 mm monthly.

Thanks to its surrounding hills and mountainous regions, Hungary is protected from many depressions, contributing to its relatively dry climate. Annual precipitation totals 400 mm to 500 mm. Generally, the west receives more rainfall than the east.

Winters in Hungary are chilly, with average daytime temperatures often near or just above the freezing mark. Nightly temperatures typically average around 5°C below freezing. Snow is seen for about thirty days annually.

Spring (May and June) or the beginning of Autumn (September and October) is an optimal time to visit Hungary. The temperatures during this period are pleasant, typically ranging between 15°C and 25°C, and the days are often filled with sunshine.
