Climate overview of Hawaii

When planning a visit to Hawaii in the United States of America, it helps to know that temperatures typically range from 25°C (77°F) in January up to 30°C (86°F) during the peak of August. Our detailed climate overview is based on data from Kihei, the region's most well-known city. For more detailed climate information about other cities in the area, please see the section beneath the map further down the page.

The weather in Hawaii during January, February, March, April and December is comfortably warm, with average temperatures ranging from 26°C (79°F) to 27°C (81°F).

Precipitation in Hawaii shows some seasonal variation. You'll find the most rain in March (64 mm (2.5 in)), while June tends to be drier (24 mm (0.9 in)).

July is the sunniest period, with ideal conditions for exploring the region and all it has to offer.

Hawaii experiences a tropical climate where the average daytime temperature is between 24°C (75°F) and 31°C (88°F) almost the whole year. Exceptions are the high mountain peaks where it can be cooler. On the highest mountain peaks it can even snow in winter.

Passing winds from the east determine the humidity and temperature on the islands. These winds temper the temperature, so that it actually rarely gets warmer than 32°C (90°F). Because there is a tropical climate, there is no best travel time for Hawaii. You can visit the islands throughout the year. In winter (November to April) you have a little more chance of rain and there are higher waves, while in the summer (May to October) the average temperatures are slightly higher.

The official high season runs from mid-December to the end of December and from the beginning of July to the end of August which means higher prices.
