Climate and Weather of Albania

Albania has two distinct climate zones. The coast of Albania enjoys a Mediterranean climate, while inland you'll find a continental climate. Albania's weather patterns are strongly influenced by the country's unique geography. Temperatures are affected by both the Adriatic Sea and the Albanian Alps.

What is summer like in Albania?
At the coast, you can expect an average maximum daytime temperature between 30°C and 33°C in July. More inland, the summers can be even warmer, and the country can experience heat waves. These heat waves, however, can disappear quickly due to sometimes very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with the daily temperature falling by more than ten degrees within a day.

What is winter like in Albania?
At the coast of Albania, you will experience mild winters. The average maximum daytime temperature lies between 13°C and 15°C in January, depending on where you are in the country. The south of Albania tends to have slightly higher temperatures than the north coast. Winters can be severe in the higher areas such as the Albanian Alps in the north of the country. Here you have a high chance of snow.

What is the best time to visit Albania?
The best travel time for Albania is from May to October when you have a pleasant or warm temperature and little to no precipitation. From October, summer will move into autumn, during which the amount of sunshine decreases considerably and the intensity of the rainfall increases.

Did you know?
Albania experiences an average of 300 sunny days per year, making it one of the sunniest countries in Europe. This abundance of sunshine contributes to its appeal as a tourist destination, especially along the coastal areas.
