Despite its small size, Slovenia has a surprising variety of climates. There is a continental climate in the northeast, a severe Alpine climate in the high mountain regions, and a sub-Mediterranean climate in the coastal area.
Temperature Variations
The temperatures in the southwest are very pleasant throughout the year. If you go further inland, the temperatures are lower, and during winter, the chance of snow is greater. Summers in Slovenia are very warm, with lots of sun and high temperatures between 25°C (77°F) and 30°C (86°F). Often, the temperature rises above 30°C (86°F) during summer.
Best Seasons to Visit
Especially in the coastal areas of Slovenia, you can enjoy wonderful, pleasant summer months, making July and August a great time to visit. Spring is also considered a pleasant period by many tourists. The temperatures are lower than in summer, making the country very suitable for an active holiday. The temperature in this season is around 20°C (68°F), and there is less precipitation than during summer.
Rainfall and Nature
Slovenia is a relatively wet country, mainly due to its location. The northwest of Slovenia is one of the wettest regions in Europe. Because of the relatively large amount of precipitation, you will find beautiful, green nature reserves in Slovenia.
