Climate and Weather of Mozambique
Mozambique has a variety of warm subtropical and tropical climates. During summer, which lasts from October to April, the average temperatures in almost all of Mozambique hover around 30°C, or slightly higher.During the winter months, the temperatures drop to 23°C to 29°C during the day and to 12°C to 20°C at night. On the high plains, it's a few degrees cooler.
Mozambique has a rainy season that coincides with the local summer, and a dry season that coincides with the local winter. The rainy season begins in October and lasts until March. From April onward, the chances of precipitation decrease rapidly. In most places, it hardly rains during the winter.
Mozambique sometimes experiences hurricanes, but the country is fortunate that Madagascar acts as a buffer, absorbing most tropical depressions before they can reach Mozambique. However, from late October to mid-March, heavy showers and storms with hurricane force may occur.
June to October is the dry and cooler season, with often perfect tropical weather, providing the most comfortable period for travel. There are clear skies, plenty of sun, and almost no rain. If you go on safari during the local winter, you have a better chance of spotting wildlife. The vegetation becomes less dense, and the drought forces the animals to go to places where there is still water. Also, the unpaved roads are more accessible during this time. In summer, these roads can turn into mud, making them almost impossible to navigate.
