Madagascar experiences a hot, subtropical climate, with cooler temperatures prevailing in the mountainous regions. The seasons are mainly divided into two main periods: the rainy season from November to March and the dry season from April to October. The length of each period varies from one region to another. The coastal region has a tropical climate and no complete dry season. The heaviest rainfall occurs on the coastal region between May and September with average annual precipitation varying from 2030 mm to 3250 mm.
