Malta Malta closes cafes and nightclubs

Malta has tightened its rules in the fight against coronavirus. From tomorrow, cafes and nightclubs will have to close their doors, as well as sports and fitness clubs. Furthermore, public meetings are limited to a maximum of fifteen people. Restaurants and shops may remain open.

The number of infections in Malta is rising rapidly. Months ago, the outbreak was relatively minor, but now there are 607 active corona cases. That's almost double the numbers at its peak in March and April. A total of nine people have died since March.

The increase in the number of infections can be traced back to a party in a hotel, which lasted an entire weekend, and to a traditional religious festival in a village.
