Masks have long been mandatory in public transport in Germany, but also restaurants and shops. In restaurants, the mouth cap may be taken off during dinner, but if a guest leaves the table, the mouth cap is expected to be put back on. A mask is also required when refueling in Germany.
The rules may vary from one county to another in Germany. Therefore, tourists are explicitly advised to consult the county's website before.
