Covid update for Greece

Greece Lockdown announced for all of Greece

Greece is going into lockdown again, Prime Minister Mitsotakis announced that at a press conference. All non-essential businesses must close their doors. Businesses such as supermarkets, pharmacies and banks may remain open.

Unlike the spring lockdown, primary schools and nurseries do not have to close their doors. Students receive remote education. Going outside is only possible under certain conditions. People should send a message to a government site for why they leave their homes, just like in spring. Travel between regions is prohibited. The lockdown starts on Saturday (November 7) at 06:00 and lasts for three weeks.

According to Mitsotakis, a complete lockdown is needed because the number of infections has increased dramatically in recent days and public health is at risk. "We see that the hospitals are full of covid-19 patients, both in regular beds and in intensive care." In northern Greece in particular, there are fears that patients will soon have to be transferred to hospitals in the Athens region.
