Covid update for Italy

Italy Italian government tightens corona rules

Italian media report that the government is preparing a tightening of its corona rules. From Wednesday, everyone should also wear a mask outside. In the Lazio region, which also includes Rome, this is already the case. In other regions, the obligation to wear masks is only in indoor spaces such as shops, offices and public transport.

According to the media, Health Minister Speranza will tomorrow ask parliament for permission to extend the corona state of emergency, which expires on 15 October, until 31 January.

Italy was hit hard by corona pandemic this spring. After that, the country seemed to get the virus under control. In recent weeks, the number of infections has increased again, especially in the middle and south of the country, where health care is not as good. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 35,000 Italians have died from the effects of an infection.
