Snorkeling in Jellyfish Lake is one of the highlights of Palau, one of the islands in Micronesia. Around 22 million soft pulsating jellyfish have been floating in this maritime lake for thousands of years. From the point where the boat moors, you have to walk about 10 minutes through the jungle to reach this lake surrounded by mangroves. Jellyfish Lake in Palau was blocked from the sea a long time ago and is now a saltwater lake. The lake is filled with "golden jellyfish".
Their size varies from pinheads to the size of a human head. The
jellyfish migrate horizontally through the lake every day. Do not be
afraid to be stabbed, the jellyfish are harmless and that makes it a
tourist attraction. Floating between these brownish creatures is like
exploring an alien world.
Can I dive or only snorkel?
Palau is one of the best dive destinations in the world, but diving in the Jellyfish Lake is forbidden. The bubbles from diving bottles could damage the jellyfish.
