Climate and Weather of Syria
The climate in Syria is dry and hot in summer and cold in winter. The coast and the western mountains have a Mediterranean climate characterized by two seasons, the hot and dry summer between May and October and the relatively cool and wet winter season between November and April.Syria experiences reasonable amounts of rain in the west during winter and to a lesser extent in spring and autumn. Summers in the west are almost completely dry, with the chance of rain along the Mediterranean coast being very low. Further inland the amounts of precipitation throughout the year are even lower than in the rest of Syria. The central and eastern parts of Syria experience almost no rain at all in summer and just a little bit of rain during winter months.
Summers in Syria are warm and can be extremely hot. Along the Mediterranean Sea the long-term average maximum temperature remains around 30°C. However further inland it is a lot warmer: in many places you find temperatures around forty degrees or even higher.
In winter daytime temperatures are mild, especially along the coast. At night, the temperature inland can easily drop below freezing. Snowfall is also a possibility during winter months, although most snow is not long-lived. The only exception to this is the mountainous area in southwestern Syria with higher altitudes. In some places there is even enough snow to ski, such as on Mount Hermon, which lies on the border of Lebanon, Israel and Syria.
Based on Syria's weather and climate the best time to visit is during fall and spring. April and October have the best weather conditions.
