Climate and Average Weather in Niger

Niger is one of the hottest countries on the planet. It has the Saharan desert in the north, the Sahel to the south and the Sudan in the south-west corner. The intense heat of the Saharan zone often causes the little rainfall to evaporate before it even hits the ground.

In the east annual rainfall is only 2 cm (0.79 inches). The rainy season runs from May through October, with most rain in July and August.

At Niamey, the average maximum daily temperature fluctuates from 31 degrees Celsius (88 degrees Fahrenheit) in August to 41 degrees Celsius (106 degrees Fahrenheit) in April. Nights are cooler (below 20° C /68° F ) from November to February.
