Imagine that you can combine your favorite festival with all the benefits of a winter sports holiday. You can enjoy the slopes and the beautiful surroundings during the day and go wild in the evenings at performances by great artists. In the last week of the ski season, 6000 ravers (mainly from the UK) visit the legendary music festival 'Snowbombing' in Mayrhofen. One for the bucket list maybe?

Snowbombing is celebrated in Mayrhofen for six days in April. The Snowbombing event has been a tradition in the southern part of the Zillertal for many years. Because it is organized in Mayrofen you can enjoy 139 km of slopes and the organization ensures a very strong line-up. "The best festival in the world," said Tom Clarke of the British band The Enemy. Our tip is don't focus to much on the big gigs. Smaller activities such as Beerpong, Ski-lift Karaoke and a gigantic snowball fight make Snowbombing an experience of a lifetime.

How to get there

One way eco-conscious travelers can help to protect the environment is to travel to the area by train. Going by train can cut your carbon footprint by up to 80%. From for example the UK, you can travel via Amsterdam or Cologne to Innsbruck – from here, it’s an easy train journey to Mayrhofen.

What to wear

If you are planning to go to Snowbombing than bring enough warm clothing. The best tip against the cold is to wear many layers on top of each other. But also consider taking sunscreen. It can be warm on top of the mountain and you burn twice as fast in the snow.

Where to stay?

If you want to stay at a more quiet hotel where sustainability and maintaining a responsible, ecological business is important we recommend Hotel Gletscherblick in Finkenberg. It is just 5 km from Mayrhofen.

We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay. They have super comfortable rooms. The location is great, it is super quiet and you will love the stars at night. You can see the owners really live it with their hearts and souls. You definitely want to stay here if you ask us.
