ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event) is one of the larger festival giants, but you may never have heard of it if you are not an electronic music fan. For five days and every year in October, the entire dance music industry descends to the music stages, conference rooms, bars and streets of Amsterdam and brings along showcases, panels, tech demonstrations and festivals. The Amsterdam Dance Event is a great excuse to visit Amsterdam. This beautiful city combined with the best of electronic music is a great combo and worth adding to your bucket list.

What's the weather like?

In October it can be windy, rainy and pretty chilly with average temperatures around 13-15°C (55-59°F). In 2018 and 2019 it was still warm and sunny, but this was exceptional. Recent years have shown the typical October pattern: 2020 and 2021 were particularly grey and wet, while 2022 had some milder spells mixed with rainy days. 2023 saw cooler than average temperatures with frequent showers, and 2024 followed the usual October pattern of unpredictable weather ranging from mild sunny days to cold, wet conditions. Typically, ADE takes place in cold and grey weather with frequent rain showers. So the perfect weather to be inside a club or in bed with a hangover without feeling guilty. Pack waterproof clothing and layers - you'll be moving between warm indoor venues and cool outdoor queues. Click here for more detailed climate information for October in Amsterdam.

What to Expect at ADE

ADE transforms Amsterdam into the global epicenter of electronic music. The event features over 1,000 artists across 200+ venues, from intimate club nights to massive warehouse parties. The conference side attracts industry professionals with keynotes, masterclasses, and networking events, while the festival side offers experiences for every electronic music lover. Popular venues include Concertgebouw, Paradiso, Melkweg, and countless pop-up locations throughout the city. Book tickets early as many events sell out quickly, especially the headline shows.

Where to stay?

If you would like to stay in Amsterdam during the Dance event we recommend to stay at the Westerpark so you are close to all the action. At the Westerpark many events take place (like Awakenings) and you are also close to the city center. We definitely recommend the eco friendly Conscious hotel at the Westerpark. This hotel is beautiful and the location is great right in the middle of the park.

The building is absolutely gorgeous and it has a delicious restaurant. When we stayed there the room was immaculate and we would definitely come back.

Getting Around During ADE

Amsterdam becomes incredibly busy during ADE, with club-goers moving between venues throughout the night. The city's excellent public transport system (trams, buses, metro) runs later during the event, but expect crowds. Many attendees rent bikes to navigate between venues more easily, though be extra cautious cycling at night after events. Uber and taxis are available but can be expensive and slow due to traffic. Consider staying central or near major transport hubs to minimize travel time between venues.
